Gotta start someplace. I lined the walls with rough cut lumber and then put one board in place…
Using an old garage door as the outside wall I was able to save a little cash.
I screwed a few boards in place and then pondered door placement.
I used anything I had on hand. An old garage door for partitions and an old bi-fold for my entrance…
Coming together a board and screw at a time it began to look like a coop
Making it cozy for my little chicks
You might wonder why I decided to build the chicken coop myself instead of calling in a handyman and I would answer with two words… pure economics. The truth is I try to do whatever I can myself and only call in the professionals when I must… for things like electrical and plumbing work. Honestly, after this project was complete I was beyond burnt out and I promptly wrote a “note-to-self” proclaiming that in the future I should “leave carpentry to the carpenters.” At the end of the day though I’m glad that I proved to myself that I could do something so unlike me and so out of the box for this woman, alone with power tools.
