About Rainey Dewey (Yup Me)

Tulip Festival 2007
Welcome, again, to my blog. I’m Lorraine (Rainey) Dewey, an artist, mother o twin sons, Jonathan and Michael, and am grandmother to our little Grace. I live, work and paint in Upstate New York. I’ve been painting and drawing since I was very young, to some degree or other, but became more serious about it in 1989 when I took an “adult ed” course at Duanesburg High School. My teacher, Karen Rosasco, was instrumental in taking my interest and desire to create art to a higher level of commitment. My first few paintings - yikees - I thought I’d have to quit, but with Karen’s encouragement I continued and never looked back. Art is a huge part of who I am.
This photo was taken in 2007 at the Tulip Festival in Albany, New York. I took a break from showing all of 2008 and expect to be back this year in 2009. I’ve been focusing on miniature paintings lately - though some qualify as small and not miniature. The new celestial studies are inspired by my nephew, Andrew Dewey’s Space and Sky Newsletter.

Setting Up
I’ve been taking my work to art shows (on and off) for many years. There’s a lot of lugging and carrying, but I do enjoy interacting with the public and often speak to other aspiring artists. Sharing “art talk” is an important part of creativity. I realized this after taking the past year off from showing and am excited to be doing a few shows this season. I feel sharing your ideas, passions and life experiences with others is essential to giving your life purpose and joy.
