Nature's Artwork

Nature's Artwork, Original Watercolor. The key is to find something that inspires you - like a simple sunset!

I was born with the desire to be creative and I truly believe we all have a creative dimension.

No you say, “I can’t draw a straight line.”  Let’s look deeper; maybe your creativity is not in drawing a “straight line.”  Creativity can take many forms.  Maybe your gift is motivating others, perhaps tending and designing a garden is your thing or how about creating with fabric and yarn (as my sister, Bet, and friend, Susan do).  You might be into the more traditional mediums of painting or writing.  It doesn’t matter which creative outlet you choose,  what’s important is to express yourself everyday.  I realize day-to-day responsibilities tend to edge out the things you need for spiritual and creative nourishment.  When you’re planning your day be sure to budget in creative time - ten or fifteen minutes is better than nothing.

I’ve experienced a surge in creativity in the last few months and I’m not sure what has been the catalyst.  Let’s look at what’s happened and try to figure out where this gift of creativity came from.

First, I’ve been saying for quite some time that I wanted to paint some celestial images after being inspired by the images in my nephew’s Space and Sky Newsletter.  When I finally put aside the fear and began to paint. . . . well, an excitement emerged that I haven’t been able to contain.  So the first step was taking an - Action.

Second, I’ve been saying I want to write a childrens’ book and even have a good idea.   Unfortunately, I keep talking about it while doing nothing.   Recently I plunged forward and wrote a first draft.  It looks like the second step is - Motivation.

And finally, the Blogging (courtesy of my son, JEG Design) that I started doing in mid-January  has given me an outlet.  Whether anyone is stopping in or not hasn’t changed my enthusiasm.  I’m finding making entries each day invigorating, leading to other writing and painting ideas.  The building blocks were being set in place not with thoughts, but with action.  One small action at a time leads to - Momentum.

I can see that these changes have been gradual.  From action comes motivation, from motivation comes momentum and the cycle continues.

The important thing is to take that first step - action.  If you do take that first step, the energy created will be endless and ideas will abound.  Be brave, get out of your own way and take that first step toward your dreams.
