Weekend Update

Thursday, January 29th, 2009
Well, the country mice went to the “city” this past weekend.  Tom and I went to Long Island for our Granddaughter’s Christening at St. Agnes Cathedral.  We left early Saturday morning to be on time for the event at 12:30pm.  We made it with plenty of time to spare.  Thankfully the traffic was relatively mild.  We’re getting more comfortable with the drive - but didn’t escape a little mishap on the way down.
Nothing serious really - just inconvenient.  Here’s a little history.  I drive a Jeep Liberty and have had 4 cracked windshield events in 3 years.  I’m not sure if it’s the slant of the windshield or maybe we’re just in the wrong place at the wrong time.  My most recent event happened around Christmas and the windshield was just replaced on January 6th.  So it was with some ?!*@?!… swearing that we found ourselves getting hit - yet again - with a rock or perhaps the stud from someone’s car tire.  Believe it or not, I didn’t realize such things can be “repaired” instead of just waiting for the thing to splinter into a more serious and not so easily ignored crack.  We got it repaired on Tuesday and it seems ok.

Anyway… back to the event.  It was really great.  Mike & Kathy pulled out all the stops and put on a wonderful celebration for Grace’s official joining into God’s family.  The company, setting, meal and conversation were most enjoyable.  Tom & I stayed at the Holiday Inn at Rockville Centre.  I can safely recommend that hotel if you’re looking for accommodations in that area.

We made it back home early Sunday evening.  While we were away from home, our front bird feeder was broken and on the ground.  I suspect this little guy might be the reason.  They get hungry too so Tom repaired the feeder and it’s full again and ready for whoever stops in to feed.

Classic Pink Flamingo

Pink Flamingo Classic

We’ve had quite a bit of snow so far this winter and at times it does seem like winter will last forever.  In the midst of all this white I can always rally a smile for my trusty Pink Flamingo pals as they poke their heads out of the deepening snow.  I have always liked the old gals (or guys), but a few years back when we had a 50th Anniversary party for my parents we had PF’s as our theme.  That’s when PF collecting became a madness for me.  This PF collecting is a serious business.

Happy Tuesday, Inauguration Day!

Tom feed a hungry Chick-A-Dee
Tom feeding a hungry Chick-A-Dee

I just wanted to share the coolest thing with you.  My husband, Tom, faithfully feeds the birds (all year long) and since we’ve had a lot of snow recently, the birds have been eating and depleting their feeder.  Tom went out to fill the feeder last week and decided to try to hand-feed the birds.   Well it didn’t take long for the courageous Chick-A-Dees to get bold!  We did it again on Saturday and again the Chick-A-Dees landed right on my hand.  It was so cool!

Route 30A Farm, Original Watercolor (sold)

This is one of my Original Watercolors inspired by a local farm.  This place is still a working farm with Black Angus cattle.  The farmer who maintains the place is one hardworker!  I enjoy checking out what’s going on each time I drive by.
