Thought about quitting on this one again but decided to push on.
I just don’t know how they’re going to revive Matthew. He looked pretty… dead … and I’m not ashamed to tell you it made me very angry. I for one just loved Matthew and Lady Mary. She could be as bitchy as she liked and he still adored her to no end. That is the stuff of… pure fiction and I just loved it. Now they’ve gone and screwed the whole thing up by killing Matthew. You may have come to the conclusion that I’ve either lost it or that I’m talking about Downton Abbey and if you guessed Downton Abbey you’d be right!
I need to complain a little more if you please because if I’d known they were going to kill off my favorite chararcter I don’t think I would have purchased Downton Abbey – all three seasons – and added it to my personal chick-flix collection. I much prefer happy endings and after watching Downton Abbey’s final episode of season three it will be very difficult to watch this series over and over again like I have with Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility.
They could do the wise thing and revive Matthew. I’ve seen it happen many times in the daytime soaps I watched as a young teenager. They were always killing off someone and then they’d bring them back in very creative ways. So I’m going to suggest a few ways to bring Matthew back into season four. The most obvious is to start season four in someone’s dream – most likely Lady Mary. I can see the scene already as Lady Mary awakens in a panicked sweat believing her dream of Matthew’s death to be real only to discover him safe and sound beside her asleep (not dead). Yes… that could work.
Or perhaps it could be a matter of mistaken identity. It wasn’t Matthew at all on the roadside with blood trickling from his ear. It was his evil twin, which will also be a surprise to Matthew’s mother, Isobel, but we’ll all buy into it and so will his mother because we just want Matthew back.
How else… Maybe all us viewers could pretend we were dreaming and we all thought we saw Matthew killed in an auto accident but then we woke and realized that the writers of Downton Abbey wouldn’t do something so foolish as to kill off our knight in shining armor because…. well that would be just stupid. If we wanted misery and stuff like that we’d watch the news!
Whew… I thought for a minute that they’d killed off Matthew Crawley in the final episode of season 3. What you say!? They DID! Don’t toy with me!
